Over the past few weeks, Sarah has stayed busy as the video editing lead for a new set of training videos prepared to update the home care aid programs in Washington State.

With the passing of Initiative 1029, in-home care providers will receive a great increase in training and funding in January 2011, boosting education requirements from 5 to 70 hours before going into the field to provide care.  As part of this training, local multimedia agency, Branch Avenue (where Sarah is the resident editor), will produce a brand new training program, which will offer printed, lecture, and video class materials for local non-profit training agency, SEIU Healthcare NW.

The pilot classes of this training package are currently underway, and soon the video team will be refining the clips according to the needs of the program once the pilot has concluded.  Stay tuned for some video samples from this amazing new launch of healthcare education!

After much anticipation, the short documentary, “The Ribbon” is finally going to reach new audiences.

Originally produced in 2008 and re-released in 2009, the short raised some attention when a representative of the Daughters of the American Revolution saw the film at a small screening, and saw an opportunity for further exposure.

“I spoke to you about the possibility of sharing your touching and patriotic mini-documentary,” she writes.  “Quite frankly, I believe this should be shown everywhere.”

After much communication over the past several months, that time may be getting a little closer.  The Port Angeles Chapter will be screening “The Ribbon” at a meeting this fall.

Where will the film go from here?  Sarah says, “Keeping fingers crossed.”

With the new season, Sarah has started to re-explore other mediums as her visual sense continues to expand.  Part of this development is found in her budding photography portfolio, which, as it grows, will consist of myriad of conceptual, nature, and portrait photography.

As part of her new post as Jr. Editor at Branch Ave, Sarah was responsible for creating a promotional video showcasing the organization’s talents and services.

CEO Jodie Cadieux lended insight into what makes the organization different from other media production facilities, such as their unique ability to outsource different production roles according to a project’s needs.

Sarah composed a collection of some of Branch Ave’s most dynamic projects to-date, as well using motion graphics to integrate the company’s playful leaf motif seen throughout their production materials.

Like her WordPress blog, the new site will feature examples of her work, and a regularly updated News page.  In addition to these, it will also feature a page dedicated to Sarah’s experience and expertise, as well as some videos never-before-seen on the web.  All of her videos will now be hosted via Vimeo, providing clarity and customization previously unavailable.

While YouTube is a widely-known and free service, Vimeo also provides free hosting, but at higher quality and with more opportunities for customization.  That means the videos will look sharper, more colorful, and video players can be more easily integrated into a website design.  This last point will come especially in handy in the near future, as the site will soon be seeing some big changes, but more on that later.

Featured are Artist Drops for AE subjects like web-based music station 77E and spring break.  Big name music artists speak directly to shoppers about new things happening at everyone’s favorite clothing store.

Also appearing are student radio promotions as part of American Eagle’s AE College Radio campaign, which highlighted student-radio produced playlists that brought some new flavor to AE stores around the country.

Sarah will be working closely with the Branch Ave team as a freelance video editor, as well as the office manager.  She will act as the first stop on the video projects that come to the company before they are passed to later stages in production.  She will also coordinate inter-office goings-on to make sure everything runs smoothly within the organization.

After just two weeks with the company, Sarah already feels like she’s one of the team.
